Toyota Brake Override Safety System Demonstration This Friday 3/5

Smart Throttle Technologies, LLC will be meeting on Friday the 5th from 12:00-2:00. We will be demonstrating the BOSS (Brake Override Safety System) for 2002-2010 Toyota vehicles. Please invite anyone that you think might be in a position to help advance our efforts.

I expect to have a 'Plug n' paly' unit installed in a 2010 Toyota Camry and there should be a 2006 Toyota Tacoma truck as well.

If anyone can arrange 'filming' for that day it would great.

An "extra measure of confidence"...

Toyota will still replace the floormats, but dealers will also shave three-quarters of an inch from accelerator pedals. By April, Toyota will have replacement pedals of that length.

The automaker will install the break override system on the Camry, Avalon and Lexus ES 350, IS 350 and IS 250 models, calling it “an extra measure of confidence.”

Toyota said it will begin fixing the recalled vehicles in early 2010, starting by notifying Camry, Avalon, and ES 350 owners. The Japanese press is speculating that this recall will cost Toyota around $5 billion. There’s no official word on the cost from Toyota at this point.

Sudden Unintended Acceleration! Oh What A Feeling!

We saw this post on a blog about a former owner of a 2007 Toyota Tacoma 4cyl automatic truck. The owner experienced Sudden Unintended Acceleration five times during the 17 months he owned the truck. The acceleration always happened while the air conditioner was running AND as he released the gas pedal - not as the brake was applied as reported by some. His conclusion was that the air conditioner compressor solenoid was causing an electrical surge as he released the gas pedal in normal driving as the AC cycled back on (makes sense). No surprise that no engine codes were generated. Toyota ignored his complaint.

Toyota is admitting that there IS a larger problem than just the floor mats, now they are talking about new accelerator pedal and floor pan redesign, and yet another recall to have these retrofits installed. Keep in mind that Toyota is in no hurry to open that can-o-worms because once they do they will be obligated to retro fitting NOT 3.8 million cars and trucks but, rather, more like 8 million units, and that's just here in the US. Just imagine world wide!!

This problem affects all of us, not just the Toyota and Lexus owners. You and I have loved ones on the road, crossing the streets and even simply dinning in our favorite restaurant. We are all exposed!!

Toyota is covering up this deadly defect in their product. Yes, the floor mats do, in fact, constitute a small number of "full throttle out-of-control" cases ... BUT there are other cases where the electronic throttle motor goes rogue and cruise control doesn't disengage. Toyota/Lexus isn't addressing these cases because it would financially ruin them. Not only would it cost them billions of dollars to fix these defects (unacceptable in today's global economy) but would seriously tarnish the "Toyota/Lexus brand name" and affect future car and truck sales (unacceptable at any cost ... including human life).

After the horrific high speed fiery crash that took the lives of off-duty California Highway Patrol Officer Mark Saylor and three members of his family Toyota/Lexus Corporation has recalled 3.8 million cars and trucks, the largest recall in Toyota/Lexus history.

The 2009 ES 350 Lexus sedan suddenly and unexpectedly accelerated to speeds over 100 mph. In spite of CHP officer Saylor’s expert training in high speed driving he was unable to bring the vehicle under control ending in four deaths.

While Toyota/Lexus Corporation cites ill fitting floor mats as the sole cause of this crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department do NOT join Toyota/Lexus Corporation in their findings.

Toyota/Lexus Corporation, the NHTSA and the SDCSD continue separate and independent investigations.

We, the general public, hope for and deserve a quick and clear resolution to this deadly defect that threatens us all.

Until Toyota/Lexus voluntarily or the NHTSA forces these affected vehicles off of our roads, we strongly advise removal of the driver side floor mat AND installation of ^theDecelerator as your best defense.
